September/October 2006 Newsletter

Greetings!

Wow, this year really flew by, didn't it!

We are pleased to introduce a new feature in our newsletter: Aviation Quote of the Month and Mile High Humor. In each newsletter we will share a quote, quip, or quirky joke that relates to the aviation industry. And, we are hoping to get our humorous material from YOU! We invite you to email us anything aviation related that is particularly witty, profound, or ridiculous. If your contribution is selected to be used in the newsletter you will be featured as the MSI Mile High Humor winner and receive generous recognition as a token of our appreciation.

We look forward to hearing from you!

    Very Light Jet

The Very Light Jets (VLJs) are coming and with their arrival a new chapter in aviation history will open. With their ability to take off and land from very short runways, it is expected that many small airports which currently do not support jet traffic will see a sudden influx of these aircraft. Millennium Systems International is ready with its innovative MARS VLJ Fueling Module designed to mate with the smaller tank sizes used for VLJ refueling. The VLJ Module is long on features (inbound filtration, product recirculation & overwing refueling at 30 gpm) but priced to meet the budgetary constraints of small FBOs. For more details contact us at msintl@rcn.com.

A New York State of Mind
    Statue of Liberty

Millennium Systems International is pleased to have been chosen by First Aviation Services to install a new 300,000 gallon Fuel Farm at Teeterboro Airport, N.J., the busiest general aviation airport in the world. Multiple MARS Skids will be installed on this project along with tank accessories, piping, valves, etc. When complete, First Aviation Services' new Teeterboro FBO will be an aviation industry showcase.

    Technical Tips: Pressure Control
    Cla-Val Pressure Control Valve

Underwing (single point) refueling system design demands compliance with a variety of industry standards (such as ATA 103) but one of the most important is primary and secondary pressure control. Primary pressure control is provided by a pressure control valve installed in the pumping system (not a bypass relief valve) built into the pump. Secondary pressure control is provided by the HECV (Hose End Pressure Control Valve) installed on the single point nozzle. Make sure your single point system has BOTH primary and secondary pressure control. Contact us at msintl@rcn.com for further details and assistance.

    Mile High Humor

After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form called a gripe sheet, which conveys to the mechanics problems encountered with the aircraft during the flight that need repair or correction. The mechanics read and correct the problem, and then respond in writing on the lower half of the form what remedial action was taken. Here are some actual logged maintenance complaints and problems as submitted by Qantas pilots and the solution recorded by maintenance engineers.

(P= The problem logged by the pilots; S= The solution and action taken by the engineers.)

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

    P: Something loose in cockpit.
    S: Something tightened in cockpit.

    P: DME volume unbelieveably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.

    P: Suspected crack in windsheild.
    S: Suspect you're right.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget.

(There are more where these came from...!)

    Quote of the month...
"Though I fly through the valley of death, I shall fear no evil...for I am at 80,000 feet and climbing."

-- At the entrance to the old SR-71 operating base, Kadena, Japan.
